{"id":26861,"date":"2021-03-23T16:20:10","date_gmt":"2021-03-23T14:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euc.ac.cy\/?p=26861"},"modified":"2021-03-23T16:25:05","modified_gmt":"2021-03-23T14:25:05","slug":"european-commission-selects-euc-academic-for-its-expert-group-for-the-eu-observatory-on-the-online-platform-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euc.ac.cy\/en\/european-commission-selects-euc-academic-for-its-expert-group-for-the-eu-observatory-on-the-online-platform-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"European Commission selects EUC academic for its Expert Group for the EU Observatory on the Online Platform Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Christiana Markou, Assistant Professor of the School of Law, has, following a highly competitive selection process, been\u00a0selected by the European Commission\u00a0to be\u00a0one of the fifteen members of the Expert Group to the EU Observatory on the Online Platform Economy.<\/p>\n<p>The Expert Group\u00a0supports the Commission in monitoring the evolution of the online platform economy for evidence-based and problem-focused policymaking.\u00a0The Expert group advises the Commission on the main trends of the online platform economy, analyses potentially harmful practices within the online platform economy and assists the Commission in the preparation of its annual work programme regarding these issues. It is also tasked to analyse the evolution of policy measures related to the online platform economy in the Member States and communicate with other relevant experts or centres of excellence upon the request and supervision of the Commission. It produces a final report at the end of its mandate the main findings of which undergo public consultation before publication.<\/p>\n<p>Christiana Markou is an Assistant Professor at the European University Cyprus. She holds an LLB (hons.), an LLM in International, Commercial and European Law and a PhD in Law from the University of Lancaster (UK). She is a legal researcher, member of the research team of CERIDES Center of Excellence in Innovation and Technology involved in important funded research projects. Following a nomination by the Embassy of the United States of America, she has participated in the premier professional exchange programme of the US State Department, namely the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) of January 2020 focusing on cyber security.
