In the framework of the international artists\u2019 residency program of SVA (School of Visual Arts), in which Sophia Hadjipapa-Gee was accepted last August, she presented her work in a series of artistic interventions that took places in Manhattan, New York and the School\u2019s open studios. The events were organised in collaboration with SVA and were curated by Art in Odd Places, an organisation that deals with the presentation of arts exhibitions in non-conventional public spaces in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The participation of Sophia Hadjipapa-Gee consisted of a series of artistic interventions woven into the city\u2019s fabric. More specifically, stanzas from a poem appeared altered as street signs and other signage in the streets, creating an unusual and unexpected experience for the passer by.&#160; The curators of Art in Odd Places and SVA had moreover distributed a map, which pointed out to the informed visitor how to navigate through 23rdStreet in order to experience the whole poem in sequence thus mentally reassembling the poetic and visual experience prepared by the artist, who had selected the locations where the lines of the poem were placed in such a way as to recreate the poem\u2019s meaning literally or metaphorically. <\/p>\n<p>After the successful presentation of the project and positive feedback received for the public interventions of the artist, she was invited by Art in Odd Places to participate with a new project in the organisation\u2019s annual festival presented each October on 23rd Street, Manhattan. <\/p>\n<p>More details of this year\u2019s project called SIGN and Hadjipapa-Gee\u2019s participation can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artinoddplaces.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.artinoddplaces.org\/<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sophisticality.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.sophisticality.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThis Life is Good: a peripatetic poem\u201d Sophia Hadjipapa-Gee intervenes artistically in public spaces in New York.
